Electric / Automatic Filter Coffee Machine

Definition: Using an electric or Automatic filter machine is a great and convenient way of brewing coffee at home. We recomend Moccamaster brewers with the thermal carafe. It uses a drip method like a pour-over, but with the convenience of being automatic.

Basic Brew Recipe:

Ratio: 1:16.6

Brew time: 6 minutes

To make your Moccamaster:

  1. Fill the Moccamaster’s water reservoir with 1 liter (1000g) of water.

  2. Place a paper filter into the filter basket and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the basket. Discard the rinse water.

  3. Add 60g of medium-coarse ground coffee (see brew ratio guide) to the filter basket. Gently shake the filter basket to level the coffee grounds.

  4. Place the filter basket into the Moccamaster and ensure the carafe is correctly positioned to catch the brewed coffee.

  5. Turn on the Moccamaster to start the brewing process.

  6. The water will heat to the optimal temperature (92-96°C) and drip through the coffee grounds evenly.

  7. The brewing process should take about 6 minutes to complete.

  8. Once the brewing cycle is finished, remove the filter basket and discard the used grounds.

  9. Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your cup and enjoy.

Extra tip: For the best results, use freshly ground coffee and ensure the water reservoir is filled with clean, filtered water (we recommend Brita jugs with limescale filters). Adjust the recipe to your taste by altering the coffee or grind size (being careful not to grind too fine or the moccamaster will not filter and overflow causing a horrible mess!).

This recipe is recommended for most automatic drip machines, just ensure that you do not exceed the water capacity.

Once perfected, you can repeat your recipe, maintaining consistency for great tasting coffee every time.
